| Our Programs: | Environmental Education Internships at Hartley Nature Center

Hartley is great place to gain professional experience in an environment structured to help you grow as an educator. Staff, interns and volunteer educators serve 12,000 participants annually. As the only independently funded, non-profit day-use center in Minnesota, we value the contributions of our interns! Internship Posting: Hartley Nature Center, a non-profit day use environmental center located on 660 acres in the city of Duluth, MN is seeking environmental education interns during the fall (Sept- Dec), spring (Jan- May), and summer (June-August) seasons. This unique training program provides opportunities for growth as an educator through supervised experiences in environmental and outdoor education, non-profit administration, exhibit design and maintenance, stewardship, and sustainable technologies. Applicants must have completed some coursework in relevant areas such education, interpretation, natural history, environmental studies, conservation biology or related fields; or show a dedicated interest in pursuing a career in the field. Applicants pursuing a position for college credit must indicate that on the application. On-going training with HNC curriculum and facilities is provided. Interns are required to teach hands-on classes to school-aged children in all weather conditions. Practicum (Fall & Spring terms only) 150 hour commitment Sept- Dec; Jan- May; applicants must be able to dedicate a minimum1 full work day/week or 2 half days/week at Center. Internship (4 positions Spring, 2 summer) 600 hour commitment Jan- May or June-August; applicants must be able to dedicate a minimum 5 full work days/week at Center. Energy Internship Job Description Outdoor Education & Recreation Internship Job Description Compensation Practicum (150 hr commitment) positions are unpaid, practicum participants receive HNC apparel and training. NEW 2006-2007 SEASON: Stipends of $400/mo. are available for Internship (600 hr commitment) positions with a focus on sustainable energy initiatives. Internship participants additionally receive a Duluth Pack day pack and John Tester’s text Minnesota’s Natural Heritage. All positions also receive free admission for self and guest to most HNC events and limited personal use of equipment. Application Procedures Positions will be filled on a rolling basis.
