Here is the schedule for the remaining volunteer work nights for 2008.

Thursday, September 4th – David Yount will lead a crew to continue our never-ending buckthorn control efforts. If you’d like to learn more about this much too common invader and help us get rid of some of ours, this one’s for you.

Thursday, September 11th – Joy Dunham is going to do a general sprucing up of the Hartley grounds and gardens. Here’s an opportunity to learn about many of our beautiful native plants and make your nature center look even better.

Thursday, September 18th – Another Buckthorn control night for those who missed the first one or just can’t get enough!

Thursday, September 25th – More gardening with Joy. The end of the season is drawing near, so get in one last night of fellowship and fun in the dirt

We have many jobs for adult volunteers at the Nature Center. HNC’s greatest need for volunteers is in the important job of greeter. Currently, Hartley’s business hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Greeter volunteers answer questions about Hartley Nature Center, the park, natural history, and alternative energy. If you would like to learn more about nature this is a great way for you to do so. Contact Gail Watzcak at 724-6735 for an application and interview.

Stewardship Attendants
Stewardship is a great way to help out and get involved year-round! Projects depend on the season, and can include tree planting, buckthorn pulling, butterfly gardening, building boardwalks, and many more. If any of these interest you, join our stewardship team! Call Mark at 724-6735.

Educator Volunteers
If you enjoy sharing nature with children, volunteer as an education assistant. Hartley Nature Center programs are offered for Preschool and Families, K-3, 4-6, middle school and high school levels. Perfect for a retired teacher. Training provided. Background check required.  Contact Sarah at 724-6735

Greeters
Welcome people to the nature center, assist in answering phones, odd jobs, cleaning and showing visitors the building. Training is provided. Volunteer half or full days, Monday through Saturday. Highest need is on Fridays and Saturdays.

Office Assistants
Volunteers are needed for clerical tasks such as mailings, filing, computer work and odd jobs as needed in the office.
